Sadhrana Bagh was the personal retreat for Pradeep Sachdeva, from the urban chaos that is called Delhi-NCR.  Pradeep, well known not only for his contribution to architecture but also in urban design, hospitality, furniture design, and his favourite landscape design acquired a small barren piece...

Sadhrana Bagh, designed by award-winning architecture Pradeep Sachdeva, incorporates 4 unique villas, each showcasing a distinct design concept.

The Beri House at Sadhrana Bagh, situated among mustard fields, is a haveli with a history. It is constructed from parts of two havelis that were acquired by the Thakran family before India gained independence. The design of the house is straightforward, with features suitable for warm weather such as wide verandas, a flat roof, and open walkways. Natural light gushes in through the coloured glass arches above the balconies, adding a unique touch to the space.  The haveli incorporates recycled materials in its construction, including bricks, stone pillars, wooden frames for doors, metal decorations in arched areas, and tiles, giving these items a renewed purpose in the structure.

The Bamboo House at Sadhrana Bagh showcases elements from Asian design, right in Gurgaon. The house features a distinctive sloping roof made of Bambusa Balcooa, a type of bamboo from Indochina and the Indian subcontinent. The design includes ideas from the Colombian architect Simón Vélez, while the interior decoration draws on Indian themes, including patterns and a peaceful lotus pond, adding to the Indian atmosphere. The space is furnished with wooden pieces, decorations inspired by foliage, and comfortable rugs, creating a welcoming environment.

The Kerala House in Sadhrana Bagh originates from a 300-year-old traditional family house in Kerala. The structure was moved, put together, and carefully restored at its current location. Constructed entirely from wood, the inside of the house gives off the vibe of cabins located on mountaintops. While the spiral metal staircase and certain interior aspects are recent additions, the essence of Kerala remains strong in the house.

The Library at Sadhrana Bagh draws inspiration from the Marianne North Gallery at Kew Gardens, designed to accommodate a select collection of design and architecture literature. This two-story structure’s interior utilizes natural materials such as brick, stone, wood, and recycled elements to create an indoor space that reflects the natural world outside. Sunlight filters through, filling the space with soft light.

Of the 9 incredible rooms, Beri House is the largest villa comprising five bedrooms, alongside areas designated for living and dining. It also features a private swimming pool with an adjacent pool house, an entertainment pavilion, a tree house, and a space equipped for barbeque activities. Heritage Preservation: The meticulous restoration and reassembly of traditional buildings like the Kerala House highlight the importance of preserving architectural heritage. The use of upcycled materials like bricks, wooden frames, and recycled wood in construction pays attention to the finer details of sustainability. This approach not only reduces waste but also adds unique character to each villa, blending modern needs with traditional aesthetics.

The design of buildings, such as the Bamboo House, with its sloping bamboo roof and the use of natural materials across all villas, emphasizes eco-friendly construction practices. These large-scale design choices ensure that the structures are both sustainable and harmonious with their natural surroundings.

The overall layout of Sadhrana Bagh, with its blooming gardens and integration into the mustard fields, supports the local ecosystem. This holistic approach to land use not only enhances the natural beauty of the area but also promotes biodiversity.

Energy Efficiency: Smaller details like the strategic placement of windows for natural lighting and ventilation contribute to energy efficiency. The use of natural light reduces the reliance on artificial lighting during the day, while the design promotes natural cooling, minimizing the need for air conditioning.

Light Footprint Tourism: The emphasis on meals prepared with farm-fresh produce highlights the attention to detail in promoting local agriculture and reducing the carbon footprint associated with food transportation. This practice not only ensures fresh, nutritious meals for guests but also supports local farmers.

Details such as Indian-inspired decor, patterns, and the inclusion of local crafts and artwork in the interiors of the villas reflect a deep respect for and integration with the local culture. This not only enhances the aesthetic appeal but also supports local artisans.
