Treading softly....

I must admit this is not mine. But when shifting through my daughter's old notes for the "raddiwala" I came across this register with some invaluable tips for day to day use. I rewrite word to word as most RARE hotels work on a very environment conscious and  conservation oriented ethos. Many of these points are taken into account at the concept level of RARE hotels however with unique variations.

“… The Earth is the only place in the universe where there is life.
Its continued survival now rests in our hands.”
                                                                        David Attenborough

Small every day actions made into habits can help reduce global warming. Read on…..

1.  By choosing to wake up with a traditional wind- up alarm clock rather than the beep of an   electronic one, you can stop the release of 18 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere per year.        2.  If  you  take the bus or train instead of a car for commuting as little as 8 km everyday—620 kg  of CO2 can be prevented from releasing into the atmosphere annually.
3.  Reducing the time you use a microwave, by an hour a day can stop the release of 474 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere per year.
4.  Besides saving 10 liters of water per minute, a water saving shower head will also slash CO2 emissions resulting from a 3-minute hot shower by half.
5.  If you reduce the usage of your geyser by just one hour a day, you can stop the release of 1205 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere per year.
 6.  Replacing a regular 60-Watt bulb with more energy-efficient ones like CFLs (Compact Fluorescent Lights) will reduce your CO2 emissions by one fourth.
7.  If you use a clothesline to dry your clothes instead of using the dryer in your washing machine—840 kg of CO2 can be prevented from releasing into the atmosphere annually.
8.  Heating bread rolls in a toaster versus an oven for 15 minutes, will prevent 62 kg of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere annually.
9.  If you decide to go without AC for two hours a day, you can stop the release of 2190 kg of CO2 into the atmosphere per year.
10.  If you maintain a tight seal on your refrigerator door and keep the appliance coils clean—317 kg of CO2 can be prevented from releasing into the atmosphere annually.
11. Choosing to jog in a nearby park instead of a 45-minute   treadmill, will prevent 365 kg of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere annually.
