As the world battles a pandemic, healthy living and wellness becomes even more relevant for people in the post-Covid world. And while we were engaging in mindful eating at home, wellness retreats were busy gradually gearing up for a post-COVID world, where health, and physical distancing, have become big issues.

Wellness retreats may find it an uphill task to function in a world where touching, and proximity to others, is a no-no. On International Yoga Day, we spoke to Shreyas Yoga Retreat to learn how they are prepping for full functionality.

A view of the property

During the lockdown, the property had been keeping audiences engaged with regular live yoga sessions and interactions with Ayurveda and naturopathy doctors on their social media platforms. As domestic travel restrictions eased, they opened their doors on June 15, and have already had guests.

"As a retreat which takes sustainability seriously, the challenge is to maintain the right balance between safety and over use of material and chemicals that are harmful to us and the environment,” said Rucha Sukhramani, Head of Sales and Reservations at the retreat.

Shreyas has put in place guidelines for both the staff and guests for healthy lifestyle practices. Guests will be on special diets to boost immunity, along with regular yoga sessions, breathing and meditation practices.

But what about the need for distance, you ask? Here's what visitors can expect at the retreat: Physical distancing is being adhered to with the property's 12 cottages allowing a maximum accommodation limit of 27 guests. They will also ensure that the maximum number of guests in group sessions are limited to 10 in their open and semi-open yoga spaces will. "Hence the usually worry of having to practice yoga in big groups is completely avoided at Shreyas. We also offer personalised one-on-one online sessions on request," says Sukhramani.

Shreyas will put all guests through body temperature scans, oxygen saturation and pulse reading checks. Protocols such as mandatory masks and gloves are, obviously, in place. Along with disposable masks in personal kits, personal yoga mats and props will also be available to avoid cross contamination. Their transfer cars will be regularly sanitised.
