The Kin is a 15-room boutique hotel tucked into the tree-lined lanes of Dadar West - one of Mumbai’s most rooted, culturally alive neighbourhoods. Founded by siblings Guneet and Imrun, it takes over from their grandfather’s much-loved hotel, The Parkway, and reimagines it as a small, design-forward stay full of colour, sunlight and art. More than a hotel, The Kin is also a shop, an art gallery and home to Terttulia - its buzzing restaurant where the energy often spills from the dining room onto the paved pathway outside.

The RARE Collection leans toward properties with a family behind them, and The Kin fits that mould squarely despite being a city hotel. It is run directly by siblings Imrun Sethi and Guneet Singh, in a building that belonged to their own grandfather, giving it the same lived-in, story-first quality RARE looks for elsewhere, just translated into a Mumbai idiom. No two of its fifteen rooms are alike, each shaped by Guneet's own design instincts, and the ground-floor restaurant Terttulia carries nearly a decade of the family's own food history.

Destination

To understand Mumbai beyond the glossy, hyper-commercialised bubbles of the south or the manicured lanes of Bandra, one must anchor oneself in Dadar West. This is the city’s cultural spine, a deeply residential coastal enclave where Mumbai's authentic, everyday rhythms play out in real time. Mornings here are dictated by the sea breeze and the sprawling grounds of Shivaji Park, alive with cricket matches and walkers, while a short distance away, the iconic Dadar Flower Market erupts in a dizzying, pre-dawn blur of marigolds and jasmine. It is a neighbourhood that has stubbornly held onto its mid-century soul, offering a rare glimpse of local heritage that tourist itineraries usually miss.

Design & Concept

Reimagined by founders Imrun Sethi and Guneet Singh, the property honours its structural roots by transforming their grandfather’s original building into a masterclass of nostalgic modernism. Underfoot, beautifully restored terrazzo floors catch the coastal light, while the spaces are anchored by bespoke, low-slung mid-century furniture and a rich, grounded colour palette that feels instantly welcoming.

Far from static decor, Guneet has layered the hotel with an eclectic biography of artefacts gathered from years of global travel - from whimsical ceramic phrenology heads to retro rotary phones sourced from Delhi's antique market. This curated eccentricity flows directly into the 24-hour concept store that doubles as the lobby. Here, the traditional hotel boundary dissolves: almost everything a guest encounters across the rooms and common spaces is shoppable.

Know Your Host

Sibling duo Imrun Sethi and Guneet Singh are the hearts behind The Kin - and the hotel is very much a reflection of who they are. Imrun brings a sharp culinary pedigree, having trained at Marco Pierre White's Michelin-starred The Criterion in Piccadilly before going on to build Terttulia into one of Mumbai's most loved modern European restaurants across Mumbai, Pune, and Goa. Guneet’s the one with design sensibility, drawing from mid-century aesthetics filtered through their shared love of Milan, music and the neighbourhood they've chosen to root themselves in.

Cuisine

Terttulia or "Tert" as regulars call it, is The Kin's all-day modern European restaurant that's been a neighbourhood favourite for nearly a decade. From comfort food and fresh salads to healthy meal bowls and juicy grills, the menu travels from a leisurely breakfast to a long, indulgent dinner. By day, abundant natural light makes it the perfect spot to work from or linger over a long brunch. Come evening, the room takes on a livelier pulse, with groovy sets from the resident DJ, perfectly mixed cocktails, and good company around the table. Terttulia is one of Dadar’s more convivial dinner tables - just as suited to date nights as it is to family gatherings and celebrations with friends.
