Your Stay at Purity, Muhamma, Kerala

Purity comprises four distinctive Deluxe Rooms, six Garden Suites — including three Wellness Suites equipped with an in-room spa bed — and four Vembanad Suites that are particularly well suited to families. Three of the Vembanad Suites also offer an in-room spa bed, allowing guests to enjoy a massage in complete privacy. Every room opens onto a terrace or veranda with uninterrupted views of Vembanad Lake, the defining feature of the property. Interiors are individually composed, with curated art and carefully restored vintage furniture, ensuring no two spaces feel alike. The palette draws from the landscape itself — earthy browns and muted greens balanced by selective bursts of colour in artwork and textiles. Many furnishings carry a sense of history; reclaimed and refurbished pieces lend subtle character. In some rooms, even the bed’s headboard is crafted from a salvaged antique door, offering a quiet nod to Kerala’s architectural past.

RARE India

Perfectly RARE

Set on the edge of Vembanad Lake, India’s second largest freshwater lake, Purity offers authentic experiences rooted in yoga, Ayurveda, and everyday lake life. Expansive views and holistic practices come together to create a deeply restorative stay. Watch the lake at first light and again at dusk — the changing colour and movement reveal the true rhythm of Vembanad.

Purity Destination

Destination

Travel south of Kochi toward Vembanad Lake, and the water begins to dominate the horizon. This vast, glistening expanse is the longest lake in India, the largest in Kerala, and one of the country’s most significant wetland ecosystems. What matters more than its statistics is its effect. The slow movement of water, the surrounding greenery, and the presence of birdlife ease the pace of travel and gently pull you away from the busier tourist circuits of Kerala. Purity sits directly along the lake’s edge, removed from dense settlement. The landscape is defined by reflection — water mirroring sky, light shifting across the surface, and the quiet continuity of backwater life.

Design and Concept

Purity is part of the Malabar Escapes collection, a group of boutique hotels where art, authenticity, and a strong sense of place shape every stay. The property is organised around a central courtyard that leads naturally toward the lake. Rooms and suites feel light and inviting, striking a balance between comfort and visual interest. Beyond the main structure, a wide tropical garden opens toward the water. A stone Nandi faces the lake, while trees frame an open pavilion used for weddings, music, and quiet gatherings. Closer to the shoreline, an outdoor dining area allows meals beneath the sky, and a swimming pool positioned near the water creates the illusion of floating within the lake itself. Architecture is oriented toward the lake — verandas, terraces, and open corridors framing uninterrupted water views. Interiors remain restrained, combining contemporary design with curated art and handcrafted elements. Design throughout the property reflects Malabar Escapes’ distinctive art philosophy. Clean arches, columns, antique elements, colour accents, and carefully chosen furniture come together in spaces that feel layered yet unforced. The original bungalow and its later additions remain in dialogue with each other, connected with respect for proportion and detail. The spatial experience is contemplative: light entering from the water, a breeze moving through open corridors, and quiet surfaces reflecting the changing sky. The building feels less like a hotel and more like a private lakeside residence.

Purity Design Concept

Know Your Host

Purity is one of five Malabar Escapes properties created by Joerg and Txuku in 2003. Art lies at the heart of every Malabar experience, but never in a predictable form. Instead, each hotel brings together design, cuisine, culture, people, and place, offering stays that feel both considered and alive.

Dining

Cuisine at Purity celebrates Kerala’s flavours with imagination and skill. Guests may also join cooking demonstrations to learn regional techniques and recipes. Outdoor dining near the lake is especially memorable in the evening, while Continental options remain available alongside local dishes.

Purity Facilities

Experience

The in-house spa blends traditional Ayurvedic practices with modern therapeutic approaches, offering both focused wellness programmes and shorter rejuvenation treatments. Curated outings explore the region through temples, villages, palaces, and backwater journeys, with history presented clearly. A slow paddle across Vembanad in a local boat soon settles into a rhythm that mirrors the lake itself.
