Last week we brought to you stories of self-awareness, thought and action from the RARE Community who have been putting the health of the Planet first. In the wake of United Nations classifying 2021 to 2030 as the Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, the narrative now more than ever has to revolve on highlighting journeys that contribute to the UN goal directly or indirectly. This week, we bring you some more stories that reiterate Awareness of environment and community issues, Belief in creating change and Choosing a greener strategy.

Dera Amer, Jaipur, Rajasthan

The luxury tents at Dera Amer are a sterling example of glamping done right. The family took over 180 acres of scrubland and allowed it to regenerate and flourish making it a haven for wildlife. Dera Amer is also home to rescued elephants and camels from the streets of Jaipur and allows for an ethical interaction with animals. Bharat Singh talks about the journey and how a natural life can be implemented and highlighted.

Sarai at Toria, near Khajuraho, Madhya Pradesh

When building Sarai at Toria, inspiration came from around them resulting in the use of the vernacular architectural style local to the region. Using local materials, skills and knowledge ensured a low ecological footprint, and yet did not take away from an authentic travel experience. Joanna Van Gruisen and Dr. Raghu Chundawat talk about the benefits of using this aspect in a sustainable journey.

Wild Mahseer, Balipara, Assam

Part of the Eastern Himalayan Botanical Ark, Wild Mahseer is set within the Addabarie Tea Estate and is an example of plantation living and a community focussed approach to conservation. The Ark is bustling with birds and butterflies; and Shinrin-Yoku or forest bathing here is a transformational experience. Vanghat, Corbett, Uttarakhand

A strong example of low impact tourism, Vanghat has stayed true to its ideals of conservation, preservation and sustainability from the beginning. The spaces have been designed to be minimalistic, rustic and blend in with the forest around. Community and tourism based conservation are among Vanghat’s tenets as Sumantha Ghosh explains the incredible journey of “not doing anything”.
