Bandhavgarh Jungle lodge

Known for the Royal Bengal,  Bandhavgarh National Park is located in the Umaria district of Madhya Pradesh. Spread across  the Vindhyas, the topography varies between steep ridges, bamboo thickets, forests and open meadows.  One of the first parks in central India to be spotlighted for wildlife and safaris, Bandhavgarh spreads over 700 sqkms and home to the Asiatic jackal, Bengal fox, sloth bear, striped hyena, jungle cat, leopards, spotted deer, wild boar and nilghai.

Due to its link between Kanha and Panne, Bandhavgarh is ideal to a wildlife program, and has an interesting landscape with the fort as a constant backdrop. Safaris are through three main gates of Tala, Magdi and Khitauli. Counted among the top five national parks in the country, the forest of Bandhavgarh have been home to many iconic Tigers, like Charger, Sita and Mohini. Today Bandhavgarh hosts many travellers and wildlife lovers from around the world, it is also the place where gond communities continue to live often finding new livelihoods with lodges such as Bandhavgarh Jungle Lodge.

Perfectly Rare

Owned and run by a family of celebrated conservationists, this eco-conscious lodge is designed to be an extension of the forest it is close to and help travellers unwind and experience a range of specially curated experiences.  These range from nature walks to village walks, safaris,...

Know Your Host

Sadhvi and Harsh’s passion for wildlife and people is quite evident, and they host guests with a warmth that makes one instantly feel at home. With years of experience working at some of the best safari lodges in India, the couple is passionate about wildlife even during their time off. Attention...

The rustic eco-conscious lodge subtly brings alive the vernacular architecture of the region.  Modelled on village homes from the surrounding areas - sloping baked-earth roofs and simple but ethnic furnishings. The forest has been left to claim its spaces and only a small part has been cleared to set up 14 cottages and 4 rooms in the lodge.

Paths lead through roughly hewn lanes to your cottages as well as to interesting sit outs for people to sit together chat, colour or play games. The central golghar is where most of the meals are served which extends as a sitting lounge. This is the typical lodge design with the central dining and common spaces with cottages and rooms on the side. The whole vibe is of a forest lodge where the forest, birds and smaller mammals are just outside your door, or by your generous window. Night times are specially exciting in the lodge, lit with oil lamps and candles, it looks like the galaxy has decended from the heavens.

There are a total of 18 rooms; 8 superior cottages, 6 deluxe cottages and 4 Rooms in the Villa - all of which are equipped with ensuite bathrooms. The rooms of all categories are simplistic with uncluttered spaces and beautiful handloom furnishings. Interesting willdife photographs adorn the walls. Six of the deluxe cottages have a private patio that face the Buffer Zone, the open out through large and wide doors, allowing you to sit on the generous patio, while you can hear birds and critters around you at all times. If you are lucky you may spot a mongoose or a civet, thanks to the wilderness that has been left alone to flourish.

Dining

The property offers a range of choices - snacks, local cuisine, continental and world cuisine so that all palates are satisfied at all times. From soups to Biryani's there is no shortage of options. A lot of the ingredients are sourced locally, including from the kitchen garden on the lodge. Recently the focus has been more on farm to table experiences which can be seen in the freshly cooled that are served to our guests. The Dining leads into the lounge where there is a wide collection of book, tribal art and tapestries can be seen on the nooks and walls.

There are a range of specially curated experiences the property has to offer, from village walks to safaris, bird watching to culinary classes, camp fires, outdoor dining,  photography and cultural activities. Jeep Safaris to the national park is usually through the Tala gate, and presently the possibility of seeing the Tiger in the wild.

The well trained naturlists do not just show you the tiger, they are also able to take you thorough the habitat, while pointing to the indigenous trees and climner explaining their worth to the forest and also thier uses for humans. It is surprising how much we derive from the forest hence conservation at its best is also perservation of ourselves.
